A dye immersion leak test is a method that combines a colored liquid, vacuum, and visual inspection to help reveal potential defects in package integrity. In pharmaceutical applications, even very small defects can be critical. A microcrack, a channel in the seal area, or a small opening can create a potential pathway for air, moisture, or contaminants, compromising the protection provided by the package.
