Designed for Pharmaceutical Quality-Control Requirements

The references below address different test objectives. Select the applicable method, edition and equipment configuration for your package; the list does not mean every method applies to every sample or that the equipment alone establishes compliance.

Method Selection & Scope

Which Package Integrity Test Standard Applies?

Match the test objective to the package and procedure before choosing a chamber cycle.

ReferenceTest objectiveApplication considerations
USP <1207> seriesIntegrity evaluation of sterile-product packaging.Select and validate the method for the product-package system. A chamber specification alone does not demonstrate suitability.
ASTM D3078Visual bubble-emission testing of flexible packaging.Evaluate the package, headspace and test conditions. This is a different procedure from dye ingress.
ASTM F2096Gross-leak detection by internal pressurization and bubble observation.Requires a suitable internal-pressure connection and package-specific settings; immersion under external vacuum alone is not the same method.
ASTM D4991Vacuum-method leakage testing of empty rigid containers.Confirm container compatibility and the conditions required by the applicable procedure.
ASTM D6653/D6653MEvaluation of high-altitude effects on packaging using reduced pressure.Transportation evaluation has a different objective from determining a quantitative leak rate.

For dye ingress and the other pharmacopeial references listed above, confirm the current chapter, package scope and approved laboratory procedure. Read the methylene blue leak test guide or discuss your application with DVACI.

Electronic records: optional electronic-signature and record-management functions depend on the supplied configuration. Their use must be assessed within the laboratory's validated system and procedures; software features alone do not establish 21 CFR Part 11 compliance. Methylene Blue Leak Tester FAQ

What is CDV Pharma V&P used for?

CDV Pharma V&P is a chamber system for pharmaceutical package integrity evaluation using vacuum, pressure and dye ingress workflows. Its suitability depends on the package, product, selected configuration and validated procedure.

Can CDV Pharma test blisters and vials with methylene blue?

Suitable blister packs, vials and other pharmaceutical packages can be evaluated using vacuum-assisted dye ingress. Confirm compatibility, sample dimensions, tracer, cycle and acceptance criteria with your laboratory procedure and a sample evaluation.

Is methylene blue dye ingress the same as vacuum decay?

No. Dye ingress evaluates tracer penetration and is typically read by visual inspection; vacuum decay measures pressure changes. A dye ingress chamber should not be specified as a quantitative vacuum-decay leak tester. Compare probabilistic and deterministic methods.

Does selecting a listed standard guarantee compliance?

No. The listed references cover different methods and applications. The laboratory must establish the applicable requirements and validate the selected procedure. Optional electronic-record and signature features also require configuration-specific assessment.

What information is needed to select a CDV Pharma configuration?

Provide package dimensions and material, closure type, product fill, test objective, applicable procedure and record-management needs. DVACI offers sample testing with a recorded video to help assess the application before equipment selection.
